At November’s coffee morning we enjoyed a very informative talk and demonstration from local pilates teacher, Paulinka Schrooten. Pilates is a training method for body and mind, using exercises to strengthen and stretch your body. Paulinka spoke to us about the origins of pilates and its founder, German-born Joseph Pilates, who developed and taught his method in the US. Paulinka talked about how practicing pilates improves your posture, makes your muscles stronger, and your movements more fluid. She also gave demonstrations of some of the props used, such as small balls and foam rollers, and showed us techniques for working particular body areas. She offers group classes as well as private one-to-one lessons to tailor to everyone’s needs.
