On November 22nd at Restaurant Rosé in Breda, the IWC hosted their first American Thanksgiving Dinner. This was the second event to support our charity Het Bonte Perdje. Restaurant Rose kindly offered to provide their take on an American Thanksgiving with all the trimmings. Not only did they create and serve a beautiful and tasty meal, they closed the entire restaurant for our event.
Thanks to several of our American members and the amazing Angela the event was a huge success. From the decorations, rotating seating between courses, carving of the turkey, American trivia with prizes, pies for raffle, and live auction the evening was full of great entertainment. After each course each couple rotated to a new assigned table. This was a new feature to our charity dinners that enabled lively conversation and a chance to meet new members. We all enjoyed being able to chat with many friends over the course of the evening.
For the raffle, we had two homemade pies: traditional pumpkin pie and sweet potato buttermilk pie. For the live auction we had another pumpkin pie, a bottle of Maker’s Mark whiskey, and a tote bag full of American goods from the popular American grocery store Trader Joe’s. All in all, we raised a substantial amount of money for our charity.
It was a popular event that we hope to repeat again. And it was a wonderful way to share the American holiday of Thanksgiving. As most outside of the US may not know of the holiday, we had a great time hearing the history and evolution to how it is celebrated today. Each table shared with one another what they are thankful for. And we are thankful for all that were able to attend and celebrate together.
