In the exhibition Marie Cécile Thijs – Between Heaven and Earth, the art photographer Marie Cécile Thijs (Heerlen 1964) takes us into her world where time and space fade. A fairytale universe with floating vases, lifelike unicorns, angelic creatures and magical scenes.
It is raining chickpeas. Royal cats with crowns look at us unperturbed. Children stick out their tongue unabashedly or are frozen in a secret scream. Time does not exist, in a thunderous silence everything comes to life. Objects get personality. Portraits become still life and still lifes become portraits.
Marie Cécile Thijs: “If in a parallel world, where they will lead their own lives and get a new meaning, we look at it, but see another reality.”
